Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra on Saturday canceled the first two weeks of its new season, saying even a temporary extension of musicians’ just-expired contract would intensify the organization’s financial woes.

Carmel mom, son face drug charges

September 7, 2012

A Carmel mother and her son were arrested Wednesday on drug charges following a two-month investigation by the Hamilton/Boone County Drug Task Force. Dawn Fahey, 43, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, a Class D felony. Jonathon Fahey, 24, was charged with three counts of dealing in a controlled substance, a Class B felony. A search of the Fahey home, in the 100 block of York Drive, discovered suspected heroin, suboxone, hydrocodone and drug paraphernalia.
 

Armed men threaten Westfield resident

Police are looking for two armed men who threatened a Westfield resident Thursday night after he confronted them about a possible attempted robbery. The victim was leaving his Hamilton Square Apartments home at about 9 p.m. when he saw one of the men in a vehicle belonging to one of the victim’s relatives. The suspect and another man nearby eventually pulled handguns on the victim and demanded money before fleeing on foot.
 

Bodies found in shallow grave identified

September 7, 2012

Two bodies discovered in a shallow grave in a wooded area behind an east-side Indianapolis home have been identified. Dental records show the men are Juan Carlos Valencia, 39, and Raul Barajas Villalobos, 40. Both are from San Jose, Calif. The bodies were found Aug. 22 near the 2800 block of North Gladstone Avenue. Both had suffered head trauma. Police called the deaths homicides and said the bodies could have been there for months.
 

ISO shows face cancellation if no agreement today

The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s management gave its musicians until today to accept contracts with steep concessions or else the group would cancel the first two weeks of shows. There was no deal, as of this morning.

United Way announces $40.8M fundraising goal

The United Way of Central Indiana has set a $40.8 million goal for its annual fundraising campaign, the group announced Friday. The Indianapolis-based not-for-profit is shooting to exceed last year’s campaign record of $40.6 million.
