Fair plans to honor concert victims

August 13, 2012

The one-year anniversary of the stage-collapse tragedy at the Indiana State Fair will be marked by a moment of silence Monday. Officials said all activity on the fairgrounds will shut down at 8:46 p.m., the time investigators say the first emergency call came in last year. Seven people died and 58 were injured in the tragedy. A plaque memorializing the victims was placed beneath the grandstand on Main Street.

Seymour Tubing Inc. is planning a $20 million project to expand and buy new equipment for a southern Indiana factory. The expansion help the company retain 460 workers and add 20 more.

Man charged in 13-year-old’s rape

A Carmel man faces numerous charges after being accused of raping a 13-year-old girl. Charles Blake Bracken, 19, was charged with rape, child molestation, criminal deviate conduct, sexual battery and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Police allege he took advantage of the teen while she was under the influence of alcohol last month during a party at Carmel Woods apartments.
 

Local watering bans still in effect

Despite recent rainfall, local water utilities aren’t ready to lift water-conservation measures. Citizens Water said levels at Indianapolis-area reservoirs are rising,  but more rain is needed before it would consider dropping mandatory watering bans. “We are in such a deficit when it comes to rainfall that we can’t lift the ban only to put it back in place in a couple of weeks when we’re back in the same situation that we were last month,” said spokeswoman Sarah Holsapple.
