School back in session for several districts

Summer vacation is ending this week for several local school districts. Warren Township students returned for their first day of school Monday morning. The school uses a so-called “balanced calendar,” which means shorter summer vacations. School in Perry Township resumes Tuesday. Decatur and Franklin townships head back on Wednesday, and Wayne Township resumes on Friday. Indianapolis Public Schools starts it new year next Monday.
 

City cop arrested on drunk-driving charge

Indiana State Police confirmed Sunday that they arrested an off-duty Indianapolis police officer for driving while intoxicated. Officer Daniel Kepler was arrested after a traffic stop at 3 a.m. Saturday near East Southport and Shelbyville roads. Police did not release any other details about the arrest.

Man arrested after fatal accident on I-465

July 30, 2012

An Indianapolis man was arrested after the death of a motorcyclist on Interstate 465 late Sunday night on the north side. Kevin Scott Davis, 24, was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, causing serious bodily injury or death. Police say Davis was traveling at a high rate of speed in the center lane of westbound I-465 between Meridian Street and Michigan Road at about 11:30 p.m. when his Honda passenger car rear-ended a motorcycle driven by Todd Klebes, 41. Klebes, of Indianapolis, was forced off the road and died at the scene.
 

Old National reports higher profit, revenue

Loan growth in the consumer and real estate sectors helped Evansville-based Old National Bancorp report higher profit and revenue in the second quarter, the company said Monday morning.

Former IU player Reed dies at 37

July 27, 2012

Former Indiana University basketball player Neil Reed, famously known for being the player that Coach Bob Knight choked in a 1997 team practice, died on Thursday. Reed, 37, passed away in his house in Nipomo, Calif. of cardiac arrest. He played three seasons at IU, averaging 9.8 points before transferring to Southern Mississippi. A video of Knight manhandling Reed led to disciplinary action against the coach, who was fired later that year after another incident. Reed was a high school physical education teacher and girls golf coach.
