IU Auditorium, Bloomington

 The non-Equity tour of this screen-to-stage adaptation is the first visit for “Shrek” to the  central Indiana area. So while you won’t be seeing the company shown in the video that’s on IU Auditorium’s website (a shame, became Sutton Foster and company were terrific on Broadway), you will get changes that were incorporated into the show since its New York opening—including the song “I’m a Believer.” Detail here.

 It sometimes seems as if every fair or festival in central Indiana has either electric violinist Cathy Morris or singer/songwriter Jenny DeVoe as part of its program. But, strangely, the two high-profile Indiana acts haven’t done a show together. Until now, thanks to the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and conductor Kirk Trevor. Lucas Oil Stadium

 Seventy-six trombones are nothing compared to the marching musical firepower coming to Lucas Oil Stadium this weekend. Preliminaries Thursday and Friday sort out who will be competing in the finals on Saturday. Home-state favorites in the competition include Monrovia High School, Lake Central High School, Shortridge Magnet High School, Arsenal Technical High School, Western High School, Ben Davis High School, Center Grove High School, Carmel High School, Lawrence Central High School, Danville Community High School, East Central High School, Norwell High School, and Avon High School. “Universe is Flux: The Art of Tawara Yusaka”

Indianapolis Museum of Art

Look for the energy rather than any specific representation in the work of Tawara Yusaka. The late artist’s work is having its first large-scale exhibition here at the IMA, which will feature 77 works. Consisting mostly of ink on paper, the pieces in the show primarily come from the 1990s, when Yusaka returned to painting after a long hiatus to study and reinvent. Details here. 

Four teens injured in north-side crash

November 8, 2011

Police and fire crews closed West 56th Street at Kessler Boulevard early Tuesday morning after a two-vehicle accident injured four teenagers. Police say a car traveling northbound on Kessler about 2:30 a.m. ran a red light and struck a sport-utility vehicle. Two of the teens are in critical condition and the other two are in stable condition. Two people inside the SUV were not injured. Fog may have been a factor in the accident.

Indy woman hit by 2 cars, dies

November 8, 2011

Indianapolis police say a 64-year-old woman died Monday night after she was hit by a car that drove away before she was struck again by another car. Brendalin Sanders was walking near Covered Bridge Apartments, just south of 71st Street and Georgetown Road, about 10:30 p.m. when she was struck by a passing vehicle that fled the scene. Witnesses told investigators at least four vehicles stopped, possibly to help the woman, who was lying in the southbound lanes of Georgetown. Then, a second vehicle struck and dragged the victim about 350 feet. The driver of the second car remained at the scene. Police are looking for a maroon Ford Taurus or maroon Mercury Sable with heavy passenger-side damage.

Bicyclist killed by truck

A bicyclist was struck and killed by a Ryder truck just north of Pendleton in Madison County on Tuesday morning. Police say the cyclist was riding about 6 a.m., in the dark, along Indiana 67 near County Road 600 South when the incident occurred. The victim’s identity was not immediately released.

Amylin Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Eli Lilly and Co. have agreed to end a decade-long diabetes partnership to resolve litigation. Amylin will make an upfront payment of $250 million to Lilly and future revenue-sharing payments of $1.2 billion plus interest.

Auto supplier plans to add 100 jobs in Logansport

Federal-Mogul Corp. said it will add the jobs next year as part of a $2.7 million expansion to purchase new machinery and equipment for its 170,000-square-foot manufacturing plant and 15,000-square-foot technical center.
