Five found dead in rural Indiana

Some of the five people found dead Sunday afternoon in rural southeast Indiana had been shot, state police said, and autopsies to confirm the cause of death are planned for Monday. Police discovered the bodies of two males and two females inside a house and a dead man in a recreational vehicle across the street. Police said it was not clear if suspects remained on the loose or were among the dead. They warned residents of the town of Laurel, about 60 miles from Indianapolis, to be cautious.

Concert held for missing IU student

An estimated 2,000 people showed up in the rain for a concert Thursday evening in Bloomington for a missing Indiana University student. Lauren Spierer, then 19, disappeared in June after a night out partying with friends in Bloomington. The "Shine 4 Lauren" event at IU's Dunn Meadow featured three bands and IU men's basketball coach Tom Crean. Spierer's parents urged people to come forward with any information.

 

Romney to campaign, raise money in Indy

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will be in Indianapolis Friday night to build his base of Hoosier supporters and raise money for his presidential campaign. The candidate will speak at the J.W. Marriott and plans to attend a pair of fundraisers. Romney will be the third candidate to talk to Republican Hoosiers at one of the state party's forums. Former Godfather's Pizza CEO Herman Cain and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman campaigned here last month. Texas Gov. Rick Perry is scheduled to visit Indianapolis Oct. 12.
 

Fire ruins 42 Speedway apartments

One firefighter and one resident were hurt Thursday evening in a Speedway blaze that displaced 42 families. Fire crews from Indianapolis, Pike Township, Wayne Township, Avon and Speedway spent three hours battling the fire, which broke out at about 6:40 in the 2000 block of High Eagle Trail at Eagle Lake Landing. Three units initially caught fire, and more than 40 of the 62 units suffered heavy damage. The cause is being determined.
 

Judge stays decision in WellPoint policyholder case

Former policyholders of WellPoint Inc., who won a right to a class-action trial over their claims that they were shortchanged when the company went public a decade ago, will have to put their trial plans on hold.
