Key road projects await busy INDOT

The ongoing rehab of Interstate 465 will continue to be the biggest highway project in the metro area in 2011, but the rebuilding of an 11-mile segment on the west side could be all but finished by the end of the year—just when other significant highway projects will get under way in the metro area.

Icy road helps police nab suspect

December 14, 2010

Police were able to track down and capture a suspected robber after icy road conditions hampered his getaway. The robbery occurred about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Sakitumi Discount liquor store near 30th Street and Lafayette Road in Indianapolis. Officers say the clerk ran out of the store and had enough time to write down the license plate number of the getaway car because it couldn't gain traction on the ice. Police tracked the suspect to a house near 16th Street and Lafayette Road. The suspect surrendered peacefully about an hour later after a SWAT team was called in.
 

Broken water main snarls traffic

December 6, 2010

An early-morning water main break on the city’s west side created a mess for the Monday morning commute. Water was spilling onto 16th Street near Tibbs Avenue for hours. Crews shut down one lane of traffic, but frigid temperatures caused the water to freeze, creating slick spots drivers had to navigate around. Veolia Water officials told Fox59 crews they hope to have the area open in time for the evening rush hour.

Crash in Fishers knocks out power

November 29, 2010

A semi-truck crashed into a utility pole near 116th Street and Allisonville Road in Fishers Monday morning, knocking out power for about 1,700 Duke Energy customers. The driver was trying to park his rig when he hit the pole, causing power lines to fall on the truck’s cabin. He was trapped inside for about an hour. The 4:30 a.m. accident temporarily shut down traffic at the busy intersection.

School acquires remainder of former Herron Art Institute

Herron High School has acquired the parts of the former Herron Art Institute it did not already control, including the historic Fessler Building and a parking lot, from Minkis Builders for about $500,000.

State gives Speedway $2.9M for blight cleanup

A popular restaurant on the east side of Indianapolis that burned in January is set to reopen Sunday. Texas Roadhouse, 16th Street and Shadeland Avenue, was rebuilt from the ground up. It took firefighters, battling cold weather and frozen hydrants, more than two hours to get the fire under control.

Clarian expanding neurosurgery unit, aiming for national draw

Methodist Hospital is spending $27 million to renovate its neurosurgery suites as the centerpiece of a big expansion its owner, Clarian Health, hopes will create nearly 1,200 jobs over the next decade and vault Methodist into the top 10 neurosurgery sites in the nation.

Fishers shopping center lands new tenants

Kite Realty Group Trust has landed Goodwill, Dollar Tree and Mexico City Grill for a renovation of its Fishers Station shopping center.
