March 12, 2007

A bill weaving its way through the Indiana General Assembly could give the state an edge in attracting and growing the type of high-tech ventures several states covet. Indiana House Bill 1461, introduced by Rep. Brian Bosma, R-Indianapolis, advanced to the Senate after sailing through the House of Representatives on Feb. 26 by a vote of 95-3. The legislation that was referred to the Senate’s Economic Development and Technology Committee would provide a tax incentive that would shield income from…

March 19, 2007

It seemed like a feel-good story for the ages. Heiress Ruth Lilly’s estimated $185 million gift to two fledgling arts groups made headlines around the globe when the news broke five years ago. Then events took a dramatic turn. The organizations-the Chicago-based Poetry Foundation and the Washington, D.C.-based Americans for the Arts-charged their fortunes should be far larger. They sued National City Bank of Indiana, alleging it bungled management of Lilly’s assets, costing them tens of millions of dollars. A…

Bowland Solutions Assessing a niche: Online job reviews help firm build global client base

March 19, 2007

March 26, 2007

One of the most enjoyable aspects of my job as president of the Indiana Economic Development Corp. and secretary of commerce was the opportunity to represent our governor and the state of Indiana on goodnews occasions. Certified tech parks enjoy the advantage of being allowed to capture and invest in the development of their park…

March 26, 2007

When I was promoted to president and chief operating officer of our firm a couple of years ago, I was not totally aware that directing a staff in a service business has special requirements you can’t appreciate until you are actually in the role. I assumed that I would go on working Fortunately, my company has a board of directors that includes Tim Baldwin, a management professor at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business. His counsel has been invaluable in…
