When I talked to SmallBox founder Jeb Banner about his marketing firm’s so-called “Nice Grants” last week, he told me he’d love it if the idea inspired other businesses to do something similar.
He didn’t have to wait long. On Thursday, Indianapolis-based Angie’s List said it would kick in $5,000 to double the number grants awarded Feb. 8.
SmallBox’s goal is to support projects that could have a big impact on the community. Nearly 130 applications had been submitted by Friday morning, and organizers extended the deadline to noon Jan. 25 after learning of the extra funding.
With the Angie’s List contribution, 10 $1,000 grants are up for grabs.
“The next best thing to having a great idea is to help that idea grow," company namesake Angie Hicks said in a prepared statement. "Angie's List is all about making neighborhoods and communities better. We are thrilled SmallBox has let us join in this effort.”
It looks like the snowball has started rolling downhill. What's next?
