Patents: ReproHealth holds patents that cover the United States, European Union and Brazil, which it describes as the major cattle-producing regions of the world.
What does the company do? ReproHealth makes devices to improve assisted reproduction in animals, including through in vitro fertilization and artificial insemination. The company has created a new form of cattle-assisted reproductive technology: intra-vaginal embryo culture, or IVC. “Dr. Donahue is a human fertility doctor that did the first human IVC procedure in Indiana in 2017,” the company said. “The patient delivered twins. This led to the development of our technology designed for animal reproduction.”
What problem is it trying to solve? Only 20% of the eggs produced with conventional cow in vitro fertilization produce a viable embryo. And cow artificial insemination is about 50% effective. The company has created a device that improves the motility of the semen for better pregnancy rates.
Latest news: ReproHealth Technologies was awarded a U.S. Department of Agriculture SBIR Phase 1 grant for its bovine intravaginal embryo culture device.
Why ReproHealth made the list: ReproHealth won the inaugural AgriNovus Indiana Agbioscience Innovation Award at TechPoint’s Mira Awards this year.•
