Franklin distribution center to have eye appeal
Officials for an Ohio-based tire manufacturer this month announced plans to relocate a distribution facility to Franklin, bringing 60 jobs to the city 25 miles south of Indianapolis.
Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. will move into a new 808,500-square-foot building in Franklin Tech Park near Interstate 65. Due to the facility’s high-visibility location, Cooper officials have agreed to design an eye-pleasing facility with architectural features rarely associated with a warehouse building.
Cooper plans to have the facility open next year and fully operational by 2011.
Company officials said it should cost $30 million to move the distribution facility from just outside Dayton, Ohio. The city of Franklin will contribute $275,000 for design and construction of the building, said Mayor Fred Paris.
Paris is insisting that the building be environmentally friendly in addition to architecturally pleasing.
Cooper Tire & Rubber makes tires for
passenger cars, light and medium-size
trucks, motorcycles and race cars.
