West-side apartment complex to house veterans

February 29, 2012

An $11.3 million apartment complex is slated to be built on the city’s west side to provide housing for homeless and disabled veterans.

Lincoln Apartments will be located at 530 Holmes Ave., about a mile from the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center. Construction on the 75-unit project is scheduled to begin soon, with completion set for late 2013 or early 2014.

The project will be financed with the help of $11 million in rental housing tax credits from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority.

The city of Indianapolis donated the land and provided $200,000 to remediate the site, which once housed an iron works foundry that closed in 1962.

Indianapolis-based Keystone Construction Corp. is the contractor for the project. Locally-based Axis Architects + Interiors is the designer.
