The Indianapolis Zoo will begin testing the temperature of playground equipment more frequently and post additional warnings that surfaces could be hot after a toddler was burned on a slide.

Khara Sinclair tells WTHR-TV Channel 13 that her 22-month-old daughter, Tynlee, received second-degree burns on her leg after using the plastic slide recently.

Zoo spokesman Jon Glesing says the playground equipment has been in place at the zoo for 10 years and no other child has reported a burn. He says a lack of shade caused by the late spring could have contributed to the slide's heat on the 73-degree day.

Zoo security officers will begin checking the slide temperatures every 30 minutes, and the zoo is adding more caution signs alerting parents that playground surfaces may be hot.
