The Indianapolis City-County Council voted 25-4 Monday night to approve an additional $16 million in spending on emergency road repairs needed after a brutal winter.
The amount adds to the already $8.3 million in road-repair spending that was approved by the council May 12.
The Department of Public Works said it will concentrate on repairing and repaving 74 miles of major Marion County roadways that suffered heavy pothole damage.
The decision over the additional funding created a political battle earlier this year when council members fought over which districts should receive more road repairs.
