  1. If a casino had been what was put into the renovated Union Station back in the early 80’s, then it would not have failed. I suspect the convention business would have loved it. Maybe Circle Center Mall would still be open. The Indiana Legislature is usually not going to do much for Indianapolis. Actually, they are somehow able to keep the whole state the most backward in the Midwest.

    1. Visit Indy put out the least committal statement of support for a downtown casino I’ve ever seen. Even they admitted some of our existing conventions were not on board.

If we are going to cram a casino downtown, put it on the former Eleven Park site. It’s downtown but isolated.

  2. TWG not returning phone calls regarding the Old City Hall project is not a good sign regarding the status of the project. Unfortunately local developers alone can not make these large scale projects work. The Gold Building and City Market is another example.

  3. I really hope Indy doesn’t bring a casino to downtown. that’s not our brand. It’s cheesy, doesn’t attract a good crowd, we are Never going to be “Vegas” and let’s make Indy a super, duper high quality town that doesn’t need to go low brow with a 1-off casino.

    1. I respect your opinion. To me the reality is that a casino would generate tax dollars which, if captured correctly, would go a long way alleviating serious budget cuts. (Thank you legislature and governor).
All of the bike trails, empty Indygo buses, traffic calming/gridlock improvements? have to be paid for someway.
That doesn’t even begin to address the homeless, mental health needs and housing that this city has not/will not address.
If some visitor wants to part with some money to help with some of these issues, so be it.

    2. Rick – we only have budget cuts because we insist on continual tax cuts. The revenues from a downtown casino would not be additive, they would just be used to justify yet another tax cut.

  4. A casino in downtown Indy really does make the most sense. I am northeast Indiana and would enjoy a casino to go to but it really makes more sense to me having it downtown Indy with the sports and convention environment. Definitely would help bring more conventions, bigger concerts, and events like Super Bowl again

    1. Nick, IMO Indy’s not getting another Super Bowl – there are now too many warm weather NFL cities and new stadiums that want that reward, such as LA, Vegas, Phoenix, Dallas, Miami, Tampa, NO, San Jose, Nashville, etc.

    1. And Braun is a giant impediment to any Indy development. The sooner he’s out of the governor’s office, the better. He’s awful.
