The Republican governor said Friday that after the recent deadly shooting at a community college in Oregon he would make an additional $3.5 million in safety grants available.
The state budget that went into effect in July more than halved the program, which set aside $20 million in 2013 to help school districts hire police officers and buy safety equipment.
Pence's administration said the additional money makes more than $9 million available to schools this year. The governor's office has not said where the new money came from.
