The group announced Wednesday it has named Bose McKinney & Evans LLP managing partner Jeffrey Gaither as chairman of the group.
Mayor Joe Hogsett, who himself used to work at Bose, cheered the announcement.
“For the past 50 years, GIPC has played a crucial role in the progress of our city,” Hogsett said. “With Jeff at the helm, I am confident GIPC will continue to serve the community and aid in the implementation of key city initiatives like a summer jobs program that will benefit residents of Indianapolis for generations to come.”
The GIPC board also named Yvonne Shaheen, Mel Raines, Ellen Annala, Bill Shrewsberry and Michael Gargano to its executive committee.
Gaither has practiced law here for more than 30 years, and specializes in complex commercial litigation.
“This is an exciting time for Indianapolis and I look forward to partnering with Mayor Hogsett and business and community leaders as we build on the city’s reputation of being one of America’s great cities,” Gaither said.
The Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee was formed in 1965 to convene residents from different sectors of the city to “address the most significant issues of concern and areas for opportunity,” according to the group’s website.
GIPC has worked on projects including the development of Eagle Creek Park, the creation of Unigov and the construction of Interstate 465. Recently, it worked to build consensus on building the new Eskanazi Health Hospital.
