A global manufacturer and distributor of luggage products plans to relocate its U.S. headquarters from Indianapolis to Greenwood and is in the process of adding 15 employees.

IT Luggage is investing nearly $1.8 million to purchase and renovate a 33,000-square-foot facility at 1760 Industrial Drive to house its U.S. corporate, finance, logistics and distribution operations, according to Ken White, general manager of the Indianapolis operations.

Improvements to the Greenwood facility already are under way, including resurfacing the parking lot, building a new docking area, repairing exterior masonry and rehabbing office space.

The England-based business, which established a presence in central Indiana in 2003, expects to open the new facility this fall. It plans to hire for customer service, finance, warehouse and logistics positions.

The firm currently has 29 employees in the United States, White said. Twenty-two work in the Indianapolis operations at 5750 Kopetsky Drive on the south side of the city.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. has offered IT Luggage up to $105,000 in tax credits, based on the firm’s job creation plans. The credits are conditional, meaning they can only be claimed once employees are hired.

The firm already is on its way to meeting its agreement with the state to add 15 local employees by 2021. Starting the agreement with 15 workers, it recently hired seven and expects to reach the target of 30 within a year, White said.

IT Luggage was founded in London in 1985 as Landor Ltd., designing luggage for business and personal travel. It has about 235 employees worldwide.
