Julia Carson did not hold the seat “for nearly 70 years prior”.
Andy Jacobs held the seat for 30 years, from 1965-1997 (except for one term 1973-75 for Bill Hudnut), and Ms. Carson served from 1997 until her death at the age of 69 in 2007. Looks like your AI confused her age with her years of service.
My copy said Julia held it for 10 years.?
And I think we had both Andy Jacob’s senior and Andy Jacob’s Jr over that 30 year period.
Jacobs not Jacob’s.
Kevin, I copied and pasted the quote this morning. It was corrected without the reporter or editor noting so here in the comments.
Jacobs Jr. was in office 30 years, and Sr. only for one term long before Jr. was elected.
Trying to put a moratorium on data centers today is like trying to put a moratorium on car factories or electric power plants 100 years ago.
We need data centers and they’re going to be everywhere.
Data centers will probably have a fairly short useful life. The citizens living with data center sites need to have assurances that when the site is no longer useful, it will become asset to the community, and not another brownfield site.
Unfortunately, if the Black Church Coalition was really informed and wasn’t playing black politics, they might understand Councilman Ron Gibson was looking out for them all, with their best interest in mind. Keep fighting Ron, you’re doing good!
And, the three folks running against Andre Carson, have made statements herein, that make Carson the better candidate, against my will, at least his rhetoric remains more open minded and has the will to see and evaluate more of the larger benefits of the data center.
Similar to the elusive definition of Indy’s “Black Leaders”, what are the requirements to join the “Black Church Coalition”?
Councilor Gibson is a good guy and supports good redevelopment generally.
It seems as if he understands the data center is probably the highest and best use of that contaminated site that has been vacant and neglected for 40 years.
Which, by the way, is next to trucking companies and a junkyard and the CSX rail line.
Also…Councilor Gibson is black. Apparently not “black enough” since his day job is in the corporate world.
What type of development would be accepted? Unfortunately, this might be as good as it gets for this area (and other many areas).
