Chuck Surack has to be one of the most annoying people to ever pretend to have this city’s interests in mind.
“Surack … said his request went unanswered.“
His offer was years too late. Kind of like his “interest” in the Indy Eleven… too late to make the team a viable franchise to the MLS.
Of course we could have gone with the USL Chapionship’s planned first league.
So our commision sold the property for nearly $4 million under fair market value so they can spend money demolitioning the property and give it to the Simon group in a few years.
The sale price doesn’t make a difference for the IAA.
The heliport was originally paid for by the FAA, so the sale price is just subtracted from much larger FAA grants that the IAA has already been awarded.
Bad location for a soccer stadium ,too small and right next to busy railroad tracks
Doesn’t need to be huge when it’s only seating 25,000 people.

That’s funny. All three of our sports facilities are within a block of the railroad tracks.
So when the soccer team doesn’t come here, Hogsett will probably sell it off at a discount to one of his benefactors; most likely the Simons.
Sad day in Indianapolis history. What a mistake to close the heliport. Just when in-city aviation is exploding in forward-looking countries. I hope this bad decision can be reversed.
I’m sure the same was said about the Traction Terminal at the time.
And you could build a heliport within a mile of downtown Indianapolis if it was needed. Heck, put a helipad at Eleven Park. Not like a soccer stadium is ever going to be built there…
Let’s build a ballroom instead.
It would get more use than a soccer stadium.
Soccer stadium can host concerts when Deer Creek closes that are too large for White River State Park amphitheater … state high school championship events for sports like lacrosse or soccer …
