  1. What a waste of time. These IL counties are subsidized by tax dollars from the other IL counties (primarily the Chicago area) so these IN legislators should be honest with their constituents – this will require tax increases to incorporate them into Indiana.

    1. “We are essentially a drain on … Illinois, and they remind us of that regularly,” said fellow Downstate Illinois Secession member Eric Ivers. He argued those counties would be “much more productive” under Indiana’s governance.

“We would no longer have to deal with the limitations placed on us by Chicago,” Ivers added.”

They want the money from Chicago but hate the strings attached. Instead, they want the money from Indianapolis but it won’t have strings attached, promises Huston.

Either way, this is a net loss for Indiana economically.

  2. Back in the spring, when this was before the Indiana legislature, Prof. Mike Hicks of Ball State, a conservative Republican, wrote an analysis of this transaction. It was not favorable, as these counties would be a serious drain on Indiana State resources. The only reason Indiana would want these counties is they are hard core Republican.

Well, that and it would give the Republicans some exciting new opportunities to practie gerrymandering…

  3. It is no surprise that the Indiana Super Stupid Super Majority TRUMP MAGA CULT would go off on a wild tangent just like their dear leader is prone to do.

  4. Interesting…this commission has 11 members. 6 from Indiana, 5 from Illiinois. If I was from Illinois, I think I might stop and think about what message that sends. I think it sends the message Indiana plans to always be in control. The secessionists might want to think about that a bit. If they think Cook County and Springfield are bad, thhink about the Indiana Generall Assembly and its MAGAt horde intentionally gutting local tax bases so the desireable places are looking to reduce services to the level of the least desireable places…

Not even might Hamilton County can escape the consequences of the MAGAt horde…

  5. Why not let Illinois absorb Indiana. Or why not let every state redraw their boundaries to meet their political desires.

Can Lake, Porter, Marion and Morgan counties join the a great state of Chicagoland and correspondingly allow a new state of Illiniana to be born?

Better yet, allow true local rule by county.

Let large cities act and govern independently as city-states, thereby residents in counties that don’t what liquor sales (dry counties do exist in many states), abortion, equal rights, minorities, or whatever they deem inappropriate can be decided by a county vote!

This administration reflect the worst aspect of the United States — greed, arrogance, ignorance. And big economy with a large populace of people easily misled by unachievable promises not linked to sound economic analysis but to emotion. And when the poultry plants and meat processing centers no longer have enough workers (those ‘illegals’ that the plant owners knowingly hired at low wages with the knowledge that they would not complain for fear of retaliation).

Lower taxes are great. But from whom might derive the revenue to operate the nation. And that pesky debt limit that heretofore has been the sacrosanct limit not to be breached suddenly is not longer a relevant issue in the land of the free (to insult democrats but not to freely speak about republican rants and raves).

The nation is clearly headed for an adjustment and it will not please many. The United States is not democratic and should never tout such to any other nation.

White house revisions, wasteful use of the National Guard — many of whom just stand around all day scrolling on their mobile device in front of busy locations where crime never has been an issue. Of course, the un-United State of American will be perfect one all the illegals are expelled. Will the new aggrieved white South African refugees take their places. Will an invite be extended for all of European descent to emigrate to the US from wherever — oh so similar to the practice followed by Argentina decades ago to purge the country of all non-europeans. Of course, that as well as the billions in aid to Argentina are contingent upon Millei or a Trump-esque supporter remaining in control of that country. Yet not one cent to assist average folk in the US with healthcare.

    One does digress. With intention.
