9 thoughts on “Shake Shack plans to open downtown location in 2021

  1. It’s honestly no better than what Steak N Shake used to be or what Culver’s is, but it’s good to see popular businesses like this and Chick fil A opening up new downtown locations.

  2. I’m confused. A national chain with a cult following is opening in downtown Indy. But according to the IBJ comments section, downtown is a smoldering heap filled with endless crime, looting, and protests.

    How can this be?

    1. Downtown is in fact an absolute mess right now. Overrun with panhandlers’ on all the streets and groups of homeless tent villages under bridges and any green space they can find. And you don’t even want to go near the Courtyard area of City Market. I was down there in Sept on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and the Circle was being used as a soup kitchen and there were at least 100 in line to get a sandwich, bag of chips, and bottle of water. They were all over the sidewalks and blocking traffic as they walked in the streets. At 1pm there was a passed out dude on the sidewalk in front of the newly closed Dick’s BBQ. There was a group passing a bottle in the ally next to the OTB where all the dumpsters were lit on fire during the riots. And the garage we parked in at Penn and Market smelled like urine and feces. So yes, it is that bad. And why multiple restaurants have closed since June. Burger Study being the most recent last week. Shake Shack isn’t planned to open until Aug/Sep/Oct 2021 according to the article. I am sure the hope is by then that mess is cleaned up.

    2. I’m sure you’ve been saving that post for awhile. Looks like you got so desperate you wasted it on a fast food joint.

  3. I like downtown. I visit downtown. I will continue to patronize downtown. Indianapolis is a city, and not a particularly small city with respect to population and land area; Indianapolis as other large and smaller cities is beset with urban issues such as homelessness and panhandling. Indianapolis is not alone and the degree to which these issue are present is significantly less than other cities. For some, urban situations and locales will never be comfortable. One should seek areas which conform to personal comfort levels. Other areas of the city and surrounding communities offer alternatives. Of course, excitement, safety, and personal comfort are subjective. All hope that by 2021 the respective messes in cities across the nation will have been cleaned up and a pleasant, safe, fair and equitable atmosphere prevails for all. High hopes.
