    1. Very little tax dollars are spent on developing new drugs.

The pharmaceuticals are already cutting back on developing new drugs because of government regulations and price controls.

    1. Not a good way too develop new drugs and bring them online.

Since when have the readers of the IBJ been such socialist????

  1. In the grand scheme, overall federal tax dollars supporting drug research is not a huge number. But, it tends to be very targeted, supporting research and development of what the pharma industry refers to as “orphan” drugs, and major drugs like cancer and COVID. Federal tax dollars, and special federal tax benefits, are the fuel that gets these done. Often, the research and development of these drugs arises from other research and development, and often it spurs innovation using the funded research.
It’s not that the readers of this news service are suddenly socialist; its that Americans pay so much more than the rest of the world for their drugs. Otherwise law abiding, conservative Republicans get their pharma from Canada or the Carribbean, just to reduce their costs. Its an issue that needs work.
