According to the state health department’s latest breakthrough statistics, nearly 500 people in Indiana have died of COVID-19 despite being fully vaccinated.
Democrat Rep. Justin Moed and former Democratic Senate candidate Ashley Eason have both publicly announced interest in running for the Indiana Senate in a new downtown Indianapolis district.
The designation puts the museum on Indiana Avenue in the same company with sites associated with Edgar Allen Poe, Ernest Hemingway, William Faulkner, Zora Neale Hurston, Mark Twain and Harriet Beecher Stowe.
The Indiana State Department of Health on Tuesday said statewide hospitalizations due to COVID-19 are continuing to soar, hitting their highest mark since early January.
Indiana reported another 20 deaths from the virus, raising the cumulative total to 14,121. The seven-day moving average of new deaths remained at 18 per day, the health department said.
The whistleblower lawsuit against state Treasurer Kelly Mitchell alleges that she illegally awarded state contracts to campaign supporters. The defendants also include law firm Ice Miller.
A decision issued Tuesday by the Indiana Court of Appeals is allowing the state to again stop the federal enhanced unemployment benefits that Gov. Eric Holcomb had tried to end in June because he thought the extra money encouraged workers to stay out of the job market.
The state said more than 3 million Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Friday at 5 a.m. More than 3 million had received the first dose of a two-dose vaccination.
Some demographers pointed out that the white population was not shrinking as much as shifting to multiracial identities. The number of people who identified as belonging to two or more races more than tripled from 2010 to 2020.
The state said more than 2.95 million Hoosiers had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as of Monday at 5 a.m. More than 2.94 million had received the first dose of a two-dose vaccination.
Hospitalizations rose to 795, up from 781 the previous day. That’s the highest level since May 25, when 810 people were hospitalized in Indiana due to the virus.
The Indiana State Department of Health on Wednesday reported that 1,248 Hoosiers had been diagnosed with COVID-19, the highest number of daily new infections since 1,438 cases were reported on April 29.
As most COVID stats continued to trend higher, hospitalizations rose to 735 on Monday—the highest level since May 28, when 746 people were hospitalized in Indiana due to the virus.
