Car hits men during street scuffle

December 30, 2013

Three men involved in a fight outside a south-side strip club were badly injured early Monday morning when they were hit by a car, according to police. The driver, who stopped at the scene on Madison Street and cooperated with investigators, said he didn’t see the men before the collision at about 12:30 a.m. One of the victims was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and the other two were reported to be in serious condition. No criminal charges are expected.

Burglars target 10th Street locales

December 30, 2013

Indianapolis police are investigating a string of burglaries that all occurred along a one-mile stretch of East 10th Street between Saturday and Sunday mornings. The locations were Tin Comet Coffee, 2119 E. 10th St.; Chicago’s Fish & Chicken, 2902 E. 10th St.; Audrey’s Place, 3210 E. 10th St.; East 10th United Methodist Church, 2327 E. 10th St.; and a cell-phone store at 2827 E. 10th St. At the church, burglars stole Christmas presents set aside for needy children.

Woman reunited with long-lost token

An Indianapolis woman was surprised on Christmas with a long-lost reminder of her father, who died in 1945. Pat Davis was reunited with the Purple Heart awarded to her father, Jackie Nesbit, who perished in Operation Varsity during World War II. Davis was just 2 months old at the time. The medal was misplaced during a family move soon after Nesbit’s death. Davis’s son-in-law recently tracked down the medal and raised $1,200 to buy it from a collector.

Police nab suspect in Westfield murders

An Indianapolis man was arrested on Thursday and charged with the murders of a Westfield mother and her daughter on Dec. 20. Christian Haley, 20, has a history of violence around the holiday season, according to arrest records released by authorities. Investigators believe that the beating deaths of 52-year-old Marylyn Erb and 23-year-old Kelley Erb were the result of a botched robbery attempt by Haley in their Westfield home. Haley reportedly is a former employee of the Erb family’s landscaping business.

Man dies from multiple shooting wounds

December 27, 2013

Indianapolis police are investigating the shooting death of a man Friday morning at a northwest-side apartment complex. The shooting occurred around 12:15 a.m. in the Lake Camelot complex near Georgetown Road and 62nd Street. When officers arrived, they found a man outside an apartment door who had been shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and has not yet been positively identified.
