Carmel Police are warning residents about an increase in burglaries in the city. The city has received reports of at least 17 burglaries since June 1, including four over the July 4 holiday. An apartment fire early Friday morning temporarily displaced two residents. Indianapolis firefighters quickly brought the blaze at Shadeland Court Apartments in the 3900 block of North Shadeland Avenue under control about 1 a.m. The fire damaged two units, but the residents were relocated to unoccupied units by apartment management. Damage was estimated at $25,000.
One person died in a fire on the south side of Indianapolis late Thursday night. Firefighters called to the 900 block of East Southport Road about 11 p.m. found fire coming from the northeast corner of a building that is used as a business and residence. The name of the victim was not released. Officials are investigating the cause of the blaze, which resulted in an estimated $175,000 in property damage.
