The distributor of wireless devices has completed its purchase of a 533,000-square-foot facility in the AllPoints Midwest business park in Plainfield and is leasing a 200,000 square-foot building, also in Plainfield.
Nottingham Village Apartment Complex, on the east side near 21st Street and Post Road, was hit by fire Tuesday morning—its fifth fire since April, according to the Indianapolis Fire Department. This time, a large storage building caught on fire, causing about $150,000 in damage. The apartment complex also suffered two fires in the spring and two more in September. One of the September fires, which killed a mother and her 2-year-old son, was ruled an arson.
A man told Indianapolis police he was beaten and robbed by two men dressed as “drag queens” early Tuesday morning. The victim said he had just received $700 in cash from a check-cashing store in the 3800 block of East Washington Street, when he was hit in the head with a claw hammer while walking home and robbed. Investigators believe the two men were watching their victim as he entered the check-cashing store. An employee said the two had been in the store earlier that morning. One of the suspects was wearing a red plaid coat. The other had braided red hair.
Donald “Joe” Wright shocked city council members when he announced his resignation as mayor of Beech Grove on Monday night. Wright, who has a year left on his term, told the council that he wants to devote more time to his business. He is chief operations officer for Indianapolis-based Novia CareClinics LLC. His resignation takes effect Jan. 17. Councilor John Jennings will serve as acting mayor until a successor is named. Beech Grove is a city of about 15,000 people in southeast Marion County.

Purdue University police are searching for a woman who disappeared after visiting her son on campus. Jinhua Liu, 52, was last seen about 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Purdue Village Apartments. Liu had been staying with her son and daughter-in-law. The couple told police they left her at their apartment but she was not there when they returned at 9:30 p.m. Police say Liu may have been upset at the time she disappeared. No foul play is suspected.
The Indianapolis Colts will host the New York Jets at Lucas Oil Stadium Saturday at 8 p.m. in the first round of the NFL playoffs. The Colts earned the home playoff game by clinching the AFC South title Sunday. The team qualified for the playoffs for a record-tying ninth year in a row. It’ll be the Colts’ ninth home playoff game since 2003.
A house fire Sunday night on the south side of Indianapolis has left a family of five homeless. When firefighters arrived at 729 Fabyan Road just after 10:30 p.m., the one-story brick ranch was engulfed in fire. The family was able to evacuate the home without injury. Homeowner Faith Garcia said she believes a space heater in her son’s bedroom caused the fire.
