On a seasonally adjusted basis, the pace of mortgage loan activity increased 2.3 percent for the week ended Dec. 31, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. The rate for 30-year mortgages decreased to 4.82 percent from 4.93 percent the previous week. The rate for 15-year mortgages increased to 4.23 percent from 4.22 percent.

-UTi Integrated Logistics Inc. leased 50,000 square feet of industrial space at 5136 W. 81st St. The tenant was represented by Stan Elser and Bill Brennan of Lee & Associates. The landlord, Dugan Realty Inc., was represented by Kate Willen and Glenn Davis of Duke Realty.

-Hibachi Grill and Supreme Buffet leased 18,750 square feet at Cherry Tree Plaza, 9701 E. Washington St. The tenant was represented by Mark Sturgis of ADM Commercial Properties. The landlord, Sandor Development Co., was represented by Jamison Downs of Sandor.

-Bermo Enterprises Inc., doing business as Max $10, leased 6,750 square feet at Cherry Tree Plaza, 9749 E. Washington St., Suite A. The landlord, Sandor Development Co., was represented by Jamison Downs of Sandor. The tenant represented itself.

-cfc Adviser of Carmel Inc. leased 4,000 square feet at Pebble Brook Village, 5540 Pebble Village Lane, No. 100, Noblesville. The landlord, Pebble Brook Office Two LLC, was represented by Paul Dick and Kevin Dick of Colliers International. The tenant represented itself.

-El Nopal Mexican Restaurant leased 4,000 square feet of retail space at Pebble Brook Village, 5540 Pebble Village Lane, Noblesville. The tenant was represented by Bill Buzan of Real Estate Unlimited. The landlord, Tom Wetherald, was represented by John Reller of Colliers International.

-Good Times of Indiana LLC, doing business as Smoke Station, leased 2,210 square feet at College Park Plaza, 8403 N. Michigan Road, Suite A. Sales/acquisitions

January 10, 2011

-Greenwood Foot Clinic bought a 7,200-square-foot office/retail building at 720 Fry Road, Greenwood. The price wasn’t disclosed. The buyer and seller, MainSource Bank, were represented by Mike Kensill of Lee & Associates.

-Circle City Property Group Inc. bought a 1,577-square-foot retail building at 7745 W. 10th St. The price wasn’t disclosed. The buyer was represented by Rick Jones of Lee & Associates. The seller, Hurricane Food Inc., was represented by Jason Speckman of NAI Olympia Partners.

-Midland Atlantic bought four parcels totaling 6.75 acres in Plainfield Park at the intersection of State Road 267 and Hadley Road, Plainfield. The price wasn’t disclosed. There were no brokers involved in the sale of the property by Pillar Properties II LLC.

Legislation would allow vote centers in all counties

A bill that would allow all 92 Indiana counties to set up centralized voting centers instead of traditional precinct polling places has unanimously cleared a state Senate committee.

Police wait to find out cause of man’s death

January 10, 2011

Indianapolis police homicide investigators are awaiting a coroner’s report to determine what killed a man whose body was found at a north-side industrial business Sunday morning. The body of Donald Phillips, 20, of Indianapolis was discovered at about 11:30 a.m. by owners of the business. An autopsy Monday morning was expected to determine an exact cause of death.
 

Suspect held in gas station robbery

January 10, 2011

Indianapolis police took a suspect into custody after an early-morning robbery at a south-side gas station. The clerk at the Circle K gas station on Southport Road near Interstate 65 gave police a description of the suspect at about 1:30 a.m. Monday. A few minutes later, an officer spotted a car matching the description. The driver was taken into police custody for questioning.
 

Boy, 16, arrested in shooting deaths

January 10, 2011

A 16-year-old boy was arrested over the weekend in connection with a double murder.  Indianapolis police believe Logan Mediate shot 50-year-old Victor Pennell and 45-year-old William Smith on Jan. 5 in a west-side alley. Pennell died at the scene and Smith died a short time later at Wishard Hospital.  Police are not discussing a motive.

Tiny bank claims Stifel Nicolaus duped it on securities

The Peoples State Bank of Ellettsville says it was duped three years ago into investing more than $13 million into auction-rate securities just before those markets froze up. Now it’s suing its broker, Stifel Nicolaus & Co., to get the money back.

California Pizza Kitchen to replace Alcatraz & more

California Pizza Kitchen plans to replace Alcatraz Brewing Co. on the first floor of Circle Centre mall. Alcatraz has occupied the space at the southeast corner of Illinois and Maryland streets since the mall opened in 1995. The Los Angeles-based chain does not currently have any restaurants in Indiana.
