Neal Grubbs, 20, was arrested Tuesday after Indianapolis police found a tennis ball filled with explosive powder and BB pellets in his bedroom. Investigators went to his west-side home after a 911 caller reported that Grubbs planned to set off ball bombs in two suburban movie theaters. Grubbs told police he was given the explosive by another individual several weeks ago.
An Indianapolis man convicted last month of shooting and killing a teenager in 2012 was sentenced Wednesday to 55 years in prison. Glenn Beard, 57, was convicted of murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon for killing 13-year-old Jarrell Tucker. Investigators determined Beard shot Tucker in the head and leg after the teen tried to rob Beard’s brother, Richard Beard, outside Glenn Beard’s house in the 100 block of North Denny Street.
Six people were taken to a hospital after carbon monoxide from a running SUV in a lower-level garage filled their Carmel apartment building late Wednesday night. Firefighters reported finding carbon monoxide in all seven units of the Legacy Towns and Flats building. Near-fatal levels of the gas were found in some apartments. Seven other residents were evacuated but didn’t require hospitalization.
