KENNEDY: Coats’ religion is no defense
Americans have been using religion to argue for and against laws since the country was founded. Proponents and opponents of slavery both pointed to Bible verses justifying their positions. Opponents of equal rights for women claimed suffrage violated God’s law.

Semi crash clogs I-65 for hours
Police say traffic was blocked for about four hours Thursday morning on a section of Interstate 65 after a crash between two semi trailers left cattle loose along the highway. The crash happened in the northbound lanes at about midnight near the Clinton County-Boone County line about 30 miles northwest of Indianapolis. No injuries were reported among any motorists.
Boy struck, injured by taxi
An 8-year-old Indianapolis boy was hospitalized after being hit by a taxi at about 4 p.m. Wednesday while trying to cross South Street just south of downtown. The boy suffered a spinal injury, a bump to the head and various cuts and scrapes. Witnesses said the impact threw the boy about 10 feet.
Bewigged man robs couple in hotel
A couple told Indianapolis police that a man wearing a woman’s wig broke into their hotel room just after midnight Thursday and robbed them of $200. The incident took place at Intown Suites in the 2300 block of North Post Road. According to the report, the intruder used pepper spray on the man’s face before forcing his girlfriend to withdraw $200 from a nearby ATM.
