Indiana Supreme Court to review energy contract

The Indiana Supreme Court will hear arguments Thursday on a lower court ruling invalidating part of a contract that would require the state to buy synthetic natural gas from a southwestern Indiana plant and resell it on the open market for 30 years.

Elkhart building at center of Bales trial set for auction

The building, owned by Indianapolis attorney Paul Page, houses Indiana’s Department of Child Services. Page agreed in January to plead guilty to one count of wire fraud in exchange for cooperating with federal prosecutors in the trial of brokers John M. Bales and William E. Spencer.

Pot-growing operation sparks fire

August 30, 2013

A heating element and exhaust unit used for growing marijuana sparked a Noblesville house fire Thursday night. Homeowner Bruce Cornelius was at the home at 3211 Westfield Road at about 9:50 p.m. when the fire began in an attic, causing an estimated $139,000 in damage. Hamilton County police removed 30 pot plants from the residence.
 

Motorcyclist dies in I-465 crash

August 30, 2013

A motorcyclist died on Interstate 465 near the West 62nd Street exit just after 12:30 a.m. Friday. An Indianapolis police officer observed the cyclist racing against a Dodge Charger shortly before the accident. Police were able to track down the Charger’s driver, who they believe was under the influence of alcohol.
 

Five hurt in overnight shootings

August 30, 2013

Indianapolis police are investigating four shootings that occurred between 11 p.m. Thursday and 3 a.m. Friday, injuring five people. Two people were shot near 42nd Street and Sheridan Avenue in the first incident. Another was shot near 37th Street and Hillside Avenue. The third shooting left a man in critical condition near 31st and Hovey Street. A man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg in the fourth incident on West 27th Street. No arrests have been made.
 

Indy needs bigger pile of corporate cash to win 2018 Super Bowl

Indianapolis Super Bowl Bid Committee officials said Friday they’ll need to raise $5 million more in advance corporate and private donations for the 2018 game than they did for the 2012 Super Bowl.

Hauke fraud victims to get $1M in initial restitution

Former money manager Keenan Hauke was sentenced in July 2012 to 10 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to running a Ponzi scheme that defrauded 67 investors of $7.1 million. Even more victims have emerged since the sentencing.

Salesforce’s bet on ExactTarget starts to pay off

The $2.5 billion purchase of ExactTarget will add $140 million to $145 million in revenue this year for Salesforce.com, the firm said Thursday. Its shares soared 13 percent in Friday morning trading.

China bribery probe leading to tough drug market, CEO says

Drugmakers under investigation for bribery have stopped promoting products in China, and physicians in some hospitals no longer want to meet sales representatives. Eli Lilly is among the drugmakers in China facing allegations.
