Man dies, firefighter injured in blaze

A 57-year-old man died and a firefighter was injured in a house fire on the northwest side of Indianapolis Thursday morning. Firefighters were called to the home near 56th Street and Georgetown Road at about 7:30 a.m. by a neighbor who said he ran to the home and knocked on the door, but got no answer. First respondents found a man dead on the main level. A firefighter suffered non-life threatening injuries when he fell through floorboards.

Mulch fire burns north-side home

June 27, 2012

Indianapolis and Fishers firefighters battled a residential fire on the north side Wednesday morning that they believe was caused by a mulch fire. The two-alarm fire engulfed a unit of the Townhomes at Berkley Place, near 96th Street and Masters Road, at about 8:30 a.m. The townhome sustained heavy damage, and bordering townhomes sustained some smoke and water damage.
 

Teen on scooter shot on west side

June 27, 2012

A teen was shot while riding on the back of a scooter on the city's west side Tuesday. The incident happened near West 10th and North Concord streets about 8:30 p.m. Officers arriving on the scene found a 15-year-old boy suffering a serious gunshot wound to his back left side and upper shoulder. Witnesses told police the shots came from a man in the front passenger seat of a gold Chrysler parked on Concord Street.
 

Garfield Park pool to reopen

June 27, 2012

Garfield Park pool is expected to reopen Wednesday, according to Indy Parks. The pool had been closed since June 21 after dozens of people were taken to the hospital following a chemical incident. Indy Parks said two inspection reports suggest operator error triggered a chain of events that allowed sodium hypochlorite solution and hydrochloric acid to combine, resulting in an abundant production of chlorine gas. The gas led many to experience vomiting, coughing, sore throats and watery eyes.
