Monument topping now set for Monday

Lady Victory’s return to the top of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument in downtown Indianapolis has been postponed until Monday morning. This week’s windy and rainy weather conditions forced contractors to postpone moving the 118-year-old sculpture several times. Crews will use a crane to lift the bronze statue more than 200 feet to the top of the monument. The sculpture was taken down nearly five months ago for a $1.5 million restoration.
 

Gas leak prompts evacuations downtown

Buildings in downtown Indianapolis were evacuated Friday morning after a gas main ruptured at 31 E. Georgia St. Indianapolis police blocked traffic at Meridian and South streets. The leak started at a worksite where crews are doing construction for the Super Bowl corridor.  
 

Crash near Pendleton kills passenger

September 9, 2011

A single-car crash early Friday morning on State Road 38 just west of Pendleton killed one person and injured another. Megan Solinski, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Chris Wertz, 36, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The car struck a utility pole near County Road 650 W. at about 2 a.m., knocking out power to some homes near Pendleton.

Rail firm says it won’t reach 650-jobs goal in Muncie

Progress Rail Services, which said last October that it would create up to 650 jobs in Muncie by 2012, now expects to employ just 250 people at the plant by the end of next year, according to a magazine.
