Private mass held for missing priest

Holy Name Catholic Church in Beech Grove hosted a private mass Thursday afternoon for friends and family members of Christian Kappes, a priest who has gone missing in Greece. Kappes has been studying in Athens for three years. On Saturday, he called family members to tell them about escalating violence involving his friend and translator, Ioanna Lekakou. Kappes’ family said he last contacted them Monday to say that he also had been threatened, and has not been heard from since.

Police seek attacker after IU assault

Bloomington police are looking for a suspect who sexually assaulted a 19-year-old Indiana University student early Thursday. Police say the student was walking in the east parking lot next to Eigemann Hall shortly after 5 a.m. when he was approached by the suspect. The man asked the student for directions, and then grabbed him. The suspect held a knife to the student’s throat, sexually assaulted him, and then ran off. Students and staff were alerted via phone and social media. Police are working on a sketch of the suspect.

Apartment building erupts in blaze

Indianapolis firefighters battled a blaze early Friday morning in an apartment building near East 22nd Street and College Avenue. When they arrived on the scene, fire was coming from the second floor and roof. After a search of the building, fire department officials said they believed it was vacant. One firefighter was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Hostess Brands Inc., the maker of Twinkies and Wonderbread, has received the go-ahead from a U.S. bankruptcy court judge to lower wages for thousands of bakery workers, affecting more than 400 employees in Indiana.
