Butler University hoops standout Ronald Nored was named boys basketball coach at Brownsburg High School on Wednesday morning. Nored, a two-time Horizon League defensive player of the year and all-academic selection, will take over the position after he graduates from Butler in May. Nored said last year after Butler’s second Final Four run that his dream was to become a coach.
Westfield-based safety company IMMI said it plans to hire more than 65 full-time workers and 50 temporary employees to keep up with demand for lap and shoulder belts for school buses.
Michael Becher will leave the local office of the accounting firm after a 36-year career, including 20 years as its leader. He’ll be succeeded by Mary Boelke, who’ll becomes just one of two female managing partners among the city’s top 20 accounting firms.
Employers say extended service could bring acces to job prospects in Marion County
Over the past 15 years, the percentage of entrepreneurs in the 20- to 34-year-old age group has dropped, according to a study released this month by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.
The facility at IUPUI will include nearly 34,000 square feet of research and classroom space and is the first phase of a planned two-stage project to improve the university’s research facilities.

Sometimes, the presence of stars in a play can make it difficult to see if the script itself is a strong one. Case in point, “A Steady Rain,” which proved a sellout on Broadway thanks to a producer’s dream cast of Hugh Jackman and Daniel Craig.
But does the play—about a pair of old friends/now policemen on the beat—work? Perhaps we’ll get a more accurate read than New Yorkers did when Keith Huff’s play gets its Indiana premiere with a cast of the very able but obviously less high-profile R. Brian Noffke and Sam Fain . Details here.

The first Indiana Artisan Marketplace was an instant hit, offering opportunities for sculptors and salsa makers and a lot in between to show (and sell) their stuff. Now the annual event is back, with 100 artists and food creators showing—and often offering samples—of their wares. This time, organizers promise that the food sampling will be spread out to avoid the bottlenecks that were the only downside of last year’s event. Details here.

The little houses on the prairie have gotten a bit of a makeover this year, with a new entry/orientation area and Outfitter’s Station, a new pottery shop, and pet-able creatures. There’s also a program called Amazing Race Through Time that features a series of challenges throughout the interactive park and a remodeled town store where visitors can cash in coins earned by helping out around the village. An Indiana University student bitten by a rabid bat while he slept in his Bloomington dorm room is receiving rabies shots. The student, his roommate and a pest control worker who transported the bat also are receiving the 14-day regimen of shots. IU spokesman Mark Land said the student was bitten on a hand Wednesday and shook the bat off in a hallway. The bat was recovered by the pest control worker and tested positive for rabies.
A suburban Indianapolis school district will stop charging fees for school bus service after months of controversy that led to a new state law against such charges. The Franklin Township school board voted 5-0 Monday night to end the fees as part of a plan to refinance the district's $181 million in debt. Officials of the 9,000-student district said last year they were forced to cut costs by turning the bus service over to an outside agency that charged at least $40 a month per child.
