Durham asks to move back into his mansion

Indicted financier Tim Durham has asked a federal judge to allow him to move from his sister’s home in Geist back to his 20,000-square-foot mansion. Durham has been living with his sister on home detention since his April arrest.

Man shot to death on northeast side

August 16, 2011

A 20-year-old man was shot to death Monday night at the Carriage House Apartments in the 10100 block of Ellis Drive on the northeast side of Indianapolis. Police responded to a report of shots being fired about 10:30 p.m. and found Antwane Spearman suffering from a gunshot wound. He died shortly after they arrived. Detectives are investigating.

Fair concert moved to Conseco

August 16, 2011

The Train and Maroon 5 concert, originally scheduled for the Grandstand at the Indiana State Fair, has been rescheduled for Thursday and moved to Conseco Fieldhouse. The bands are donating 100 percent of their performance fees to the Indiana State Fair Remembrance Fund. The fair and Pacers Sports and Entertainment, which manages Conseco Fieldhouse, also are donating all proceeds from the concert to the fund.

Landfill searched in Spierer investigation

August 16, 2011

The Bloomington Police Department began searching for evidence Tuesday morning at the Sycamore Ridge Landfill related to the disappearance of Indiana University student Lauren Spierer. Bloomington police are being assisted by the FBI, the IU Police Department and a search expert from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The Terre Haute-area landfill is about 55 miles from where Spierer was last seen. The landfill operator has identified areas that contain waste taken from Bloomington around the time of Spierer’s disappearance in early June. The search could take up to two weeks.

Angie’s List Inc.,  the fast-growing company that provides customer-review services in 200-plus markets, plans to expand its Indianapolis headquarters, creating up to 500 new jobs by 2015, it announced Tuesday morning.

Adesa to acquire online auction firm for $210M

Adesa said it plans to acquire Redwood City, Calif.-based OpenLane Inc. for $210 million in cash. OpenLane expects to sell more than 300,000 vehicles to dealers this year and generate about $100 million in revenue.

On a seasonally adjusted basis, the pace of mortgage loan applications grew 21.7 percent for the week ended Aug. 5, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. The rate for 30-year mortgages decreased to 4.37 percent from 4.45 percent the previous week. The rate for 15-year mortgages was unchanged at 3.52 percent.

Ground beef recalled by groceries

At least three major grocery store chains have recalled some of their ground beef packages because they could be contaminated with E. coli bacteria. Kroger Co., Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. and Publix Super Markets Inc. announced the recalls mainly in the southeastern United States and said they stem from problems at the National Beef Packaging Co. of Dodge City, Kan. The meat also was distributed to meat-packing companies in Detroit and Indianapolis, and to Wal-Mart operations in Indiana, Pennsylvania and Wyoming, National Beef said. Kroger’s recalled products include ground chuck, ground beef patties, and meatballs and meatloaf made in the stores.
