Safety officials probe Notre Dame death

A University of Notre Dame student filming football practice died when a scissor lift he was standing on tipped over Wednesday afternoon. The Indiana Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the death of junior Declan Sullivan, 20, of Long Grove, Ill. Wind speeds at the time were high enough for the National Weather Service to issue a high-wind advisory. Before his death, Sullivan joked about his fears on Twitter: "Gusts of wind up to 60 mph,” he posted. “Well today will be fun at work … I guess I’ve lived long enough."

Woman injured in home invasion

Indianapolis Police are investigating a home invasion in the 2600 block of Lull Water Lane on the city's far-east side near the Marion/Hancock county line. Police say a woman was tied up and beaten inside her home. Somehow, detectives say, the victim was able to get free and get to her car. A neighbor called 911. Due to the severity of her injuries, officers say the woman was unable to give them much information about the suspect.

More people voting early

More Hoosier voters are getting their ballots turned in early and avoiding those Election Day lines. In Marion County, more than 15,000 people had already voted as of Thursday morning. That's ahead of the 2006 midterm election, when fewer than 14,000 people voted before Election Day. Statewide, more than 87,000 people have cast their ballots at clerk's offices and satellite voting locations.

Cash crunch hits Indianapolis Urban League

After losing a key grant, Indianapolis Urban League laid off employees and failed to make three months' worth of retirement payments into one former worker's account—something that was remedied after the worker complained to the Labor Department.

Warsaw-based Orthopedic implant maker Zimmer Holdings Inc. reported net income of $191.1 million, or 96 cents per share. Sales fell 1 percent to $965 million from $975.6 million.
