Tim Altom, in his July 19 column, replays the tired populist argument in favor of Net Neutrality, while furthering the myth that government regulation magically makes things “fair.”
The explosion of the information age has somehow managed without federal baby-sitting. Companies continue to invest tens of billions of dollars, innovation continues, and Americans are substantially better off than they were only five years ago. DSL is available nearly universally in all major cities, broadband options increase annually as Brighthouse, Comcast, and AT&T all vie for service, and Verizon continues to expand fiber optic connections to the homes in the major population centers; it’s only a matter of time before they reach Indianapolis.
Do we really want the same government that seems incapable of addressing immigration, the economy, or the deficit interfering with one of this country’s greatest success stories?
Net Neutrality is a solution desperately in search of a problem.
