Clark announced his decision Wednesday, saying it was time to turn over the party leadership with city elections and legislative redistricting coming up next year. His resignation is effective Dec. 31.
Gov. Mitch Daniels selected the former state senator from Indianapolis to lead the state party in early 2006. Clark headed the GOP as Daniels won a landslide re-election in 2008 and the party captured full control of the General Assembly in last month's election.
Daniels said Clark has been a great state chairman who kept a positive face for the party.
There was no immediate word on who will take Clark's place.
