State and local officials in northwest Indiana are investing $250,000 in an advertising campaign to lure Illinois businesses across the state line.

They say billboards and television and print ads will appear across Illinois and target that state's personal and corporate tax increases, The Times of Munster reported Tuesday. The move coincides with the Indiana Economic Development Corp.'s "Illinnoyed by Higher Taxes" initiative.

Indiana Commerce Secretary Mitch Roob said the campaign's website already has generated 2,000 unique visits.

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn signed into law last month increases in that state's personal income tax from 3 percent to 5 percent and corporate tax rate from 4.8 percent to 7 percent.

Indiana legislators have suspended tax increases except for a proposed hike in the state's unemployment insurance tax.
