Allison to sponsor Sarah Fisher Racing

Sarah Fisher Racing recently signed a deal making Speedway-based Allison Transmission an associate sponsor for the team’s entry in the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 in May.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Allison Transmission’s sponsorship will include the placement of its logo in six locations on the No. 67 car.

“Sponsoring Sarah Fisher’s No. 67 car and driver Ed Carpenter makes good sense for Allison Transmission,” said Lou Gilbert, Allison Transmission’s Director of North American Marketing. “Allison Transmission and SFR are neighbors in Speedway … and Carpenter is a well-known Hoosier open-wheel driver.”

Sarah Fisher announced her retirement as a driver in November 2010 but continues as majority owner of the team. Carpenter, 29, was named the team’s driver late last year.

Allison officials were attracted to the SFR sponsorship deal due to the company’s deep roots in open-wheel racing at Indianapolis, Gilbert said.

Jim Allison was one of the four founders of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway over 100 years ago and founder of what has become Allison Transmission Inc. Much like Fisher, Allison was a team owner and his team competed in many IMS races and won the 1919 Indianapolis 500.

The 2011 IndyCar Series season opener is March 27 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
