The single biggest mistakes we can make regarding datacenters is use them to justify continued coal burning. We’re poisoning ourselves.

Does the power plant that turned coal into natural gas for powering the plant, still exist in Southern Indiana?

Want to guess who was stuck with the bill for the overruns?
Coal keeps the lights on.
So does natural gas, wind, solar, hydro, and nuclear power. And some of those are even cheaper than coal without giving our kids asthma and other respiratory illnesses. What’s your point?
It would be nice if there was a long term plan to phase these out which balances the need for power in the short term and the need to convert our power generation to something “cleaner” than burning coal.
That exists. Data centers have changed the projected future needs and these politicians (Trump and Braun) are forcing further analysis to score political points.
Anyone in favor of moving nuclear reactors forward? Have the data centers fund them and sell the excess energy they do not use back to the local power company. iut would seem to be a great time for “the bigger ask” and have the data centers help.
Those take many years to permit and build. I’m in favor of it if we stop building data centers while we build them, though 😉
Anyone know how much the coal industry donates to Braun and company? Not to mention the utilities as a whole.
Nowhere does this article reveal the projected amount of power needed in the state in the next 10-20 years. Lacking that information, I left to the conclusion that this is a pro-coal push by Trump and Braun (a push that lacks credibility).
