  1. Certainly no judge should have his/her personal safety threatened.

And: the Chief could rein-in public distrust, by insisting that his fellow SCOTUS members adhere to the same ethics rules as they require of all district and appeals judges. The current court is an ethics mess. Has been for decades.

  2. The media and members of the bar could also do their part to tone down the rhetoric against the judiciary. The media should stop its practice of pointing out which President appointed the judge in hot button cases. This only serves to fan the flames of prejudice against judges. Members of the bar should also refrain from criticizing judges in print. In 50 years as an attorney , I’ve only filed two disciplinary complaints. Both were against attorneys who criticized Supreme Court in print.

    1. I’m curious why attorneys should be denied First Amendment rights to criticize a powerful arm of the government, especially when it is engaging in increasingly questionable behavior, such as accepting massive gifts from benefactors pushing certain ideologies, or inventing king-like presidential powers that have no basis in the Constitution or written law? If Americans are not allowed to criticize the actions of their government, that does not sound like America.

    2. Attorneys give up their unfettered right to free speech when they take the oath of attorneys. See Gentile v. State Bar 501 U.S. 1030 (1991); Matter of Wilkins, 717 N.E. 714 (Ind. 2002).

Think of it like college coaches who give up their free speech rights to criticize the referees. Those that do get fined for criticizing the referees.

  3. Maybe the trust in the Supreme Court is being lost because they’re cranking out bad decision after bad decision, and the Federalist Society is cranking out bad judges left and right.

I mean, the entire sham of originalism is the judicial equivalent of trickle down economics.

    1. Joe “which” bad decisions might you be referring to? (Wait… let me guess… you prefer to kill baby’s in the womb… up until the 9th month)

    2. I’ve long established that I would love to get rid of abortions … but I take a lot broader view of what that would take as opposed to most of you who foolishly think that banning the procedure solves any problems, especially since most of those who claim to be pro-life never put their money where their mouths are.

      But here’s three for ya:

Whole Woman’s Health v. Jackson (the decision that allowed Texas’ bounty law) was ridiculous.
Trump vs. United States was just about as bad.
Finally, the New York State Rifle case and the entire “historical tradition” nonsense, which Thomas tried to claim applied to everything except of course his own interracial marriage.

Cirque du Soleil has nothing on the gymnastics that the Supreme Court pulls off.
