  1. One day a saner America will recognize and mourn just how much Dear Leader and the ruling party are destroying in their quest to make America “great.”

    1. You want the truth? MAGA can’t handle the truth! … And public broadcasting is all about telling the truth, especially when it comes to a lying, cheating and racist president that is only in it for himself!

    2. John didn’t feel like public broadcasting is a safe enough place for his biases so he wanted it taken away from all of us. True snowflake mentality

  2. Oh no! Who will teach the next generation of broadcasters the proper smug, condescending tone to use when speaking about the majority of Americans?

    1. Better that the Faux News channel and its propaganda on behalf of Trump and his lies.

    2. Why do republicans think facts delivered by experts are smug and condescending? Anyone? Bueller?

    3. More like who will use TV to effectively encourage the next generation with a love of learning, reading, science, nature, and history (especially American history). That’s what PBS and especially WFYI did for me, and I have benefited from those programs throughout my entire life.

  3. Mt wife and I pay for PBS Passport and we listen to NPR. We’re happy for this cut in funding. The media landscape has completely transformed over the last 50 years.

The Federal government MUST CUT SPENDING!!!

    1. Well, the $1.1B they cut from CPB was desperately needed to refurb the “free” jumbo jet Trump got from his good buddies the Saudis.

    2. Maybe we could start by cutting back on golf trips, rose garden transformations, new ballroom for the White house etc etc etc….

    3. Maybe they could start by cutting the $10B contract with palantir that was just announced

    1. Let’s not confuse CPB with PBS. And let’s also realize that CPB helped to fund public stations in rural areas. Those are the stations that help to inform their rural listeners about pesky little emergencies like tornados, floods and hurricanes. Some of those stations will simply not be able to survive.

    2. Sure Dan. This reflects the “truthiness” that Stephen Colbert, in his days when he was actually funny, used to reference. Look where it left him in 2025.

Particularly hilarious is all the leftie rebuttals dissing Fox News. Yeah, many of us don’t like Fox either, not the least because its relentless war-drum banging, especially for Israel (a position the current admin is foolish for prolonging). But Fox doesn’t have its financing codified through the bang of a Congressional gavel, nor does it owe any of its budget to involuntary extraction from the purses of US taxpayers. Fox’s success (however undeserved) is organic.

Perhaps the left could use this latest snub as a justification for a good riot? It has been literally hours since their last one. NPR would likely be on the scene to report it as a peaceful protest.

  4. All I can say is what took so long. Americans will be just fine. Any public service that is so blatantly one sided on the political spectrum is not a public service at all. Our country needs to cut spending so much more. This was a great start.

    1. Then let’s revoke all of Fox’s public licenses. If it’s ok to shut down CPB, then pull those licenses!

    2. I see you don’t understand what CPB is… I love uneducated opinions presented as fact adjacent

    3. While I value my opinion stating it multiple times was not the intent. The new app is less than ideal for editing. Now that I’ve read the prior comments I have questions. Are heads buried in the sand missinf the liberal lean of NPR? I’ve always viewed it as anti Who doesn’t think our government needs to spend less and stop pushing our children to financial calamity? Why must every opinion be met with name calling and accusation? Sad for the loss, but more broken by our inability to have healthy debate.

  5. The DNC can pick up the bill. They’re the ones who benefit. The DNC can also save Colbert as well, if they want. Simply buy $100,000,000 in advertising so the network makes a profit on the show. The DNC likely won’t see the value of either. So, no big loss.

    1. Yeah – let’s all celebrate the punishment of the poorest in our societies access to information and children’s shows.

      Next let’s shutdown libraries!

  6. I guess freedom of the press and expression is a right worth fighting for, unless you don’t like what’s being said, than its worth fighting against for some people.

    1. How did you spell it wrong every single time? You could have benefited from some public media looks like

  7. I am not the sharpest pencil in the box, but what good does it do cutting millions of dollars, just to turn around and fund his majesty’s pet projects.
I didn’t realize that “This old House” etc. and children’s programming as well as nature programs were so “leftist”.

I hate to think what our children’s (and my grandchildren’s) future looks like in this polarized world.

    1. A willful ignorance on your part? A few years ago, “Arthur” literally encouraged kids to go out and riot for Fentanyl Floyd.

  8. For just a minute can we explore the possibility that those on favor of public radio can contribute a few of their hard earned dollars towards keeping the cause. Of all the cry babies on this thread anybody ponied up in the past?

  9. PBS made sense in the 60’s and early 70’s when there were 3 major networks and if you were lucky you could get one or two UHF stations. In a world where there are literally thousands of stations, over the air, satellite, cable and streaming, that carry multiple versions of the same shows that we the taxpayers have to fund….there is no need for PBS.

PBS has a liberal leaning, but then so does most main stream media. There is no need for the taxpayer to pay for it. If people appreciate it and want it, they can support it through subscriptions just as they do with ESPN, HBO or the Hallmark Channel. It is an outlet that has outlived its need.

    1. Why do you think it had a liberal leaning? Do you have specific examples or are you just Trump’s most loyal parrot?

  10. Very torn on this loss as a long time supporter of WFYI specifically. Many great people locally will be impacted. Instead of lamenting or celebrating, let’s help find the pivot. Supporting arts is crucial to a compassionate and forward moving society. The presentation from NPR was thorough much like NYTimes, though allegations of left lean are foolish to deny for either. Trump is callous with the thresher especially without a clear plan for where these cost savings will go. If losing CPB means solvency for social security I’m down. I fear the reality leaves us more room for misappropriation on behalf of our dysfunctional uni party in sheep’s clothing government. Thinking pirate radio stations and creative visual content can thrive even with this loss.

  15. Probably was time to do something like what Sesame Street did with HBO. The programs retain importance, but the delivery model is antiquated.

  16. PBS is GOVERNMENT FUNDED MEDIA!! The only reason you dolts support it is because it has an anti-American, leftist bent! I wouldn’t care what its bent is….we shouldn’t be funding media through the government!!!!
