  1. Don’t let the Lobbyists for farmers fool you – growing corn for ethanol is not climate-friendly, but it sure drives up the price of food! Almost none of the corn grown in America is for human consumption. About 90% of US corn is used as gasoline additives, livestock feed, or exported. Of that remaining 10%, half goes to corn sugars, half is used for edible cereals, starches, and beverages.

    The US could get by with less than 1/10 of the current supply if it just ate the dang corn instead of burning it in our trucks, or feeding it to cows (where usually only a tiny fraction of those calories make it into food).
