  1. Rural folks need to understand these tariffs for what they really are, a sales tax on goods that they are struggling to afford. This is all part of the billionaire class’s ultimate goal of sequestering as much money for themselves as possible and leaving scraps for the rest of us. Wake up, folks.

    1. Moreover, row crop and livestock operators and distillers* in Indiana need to understand the swiftness and scope of retaliatory tariffs that will cost them real losses in sales.

(*One of the biggest private label distilleries in the US is MGP, formerly Seagram, in Lawrenceburg.)

  2. I can’t believe how many people voted for this ignorant clown. Guess Hoosiers deserve these tariffs since you voted for them in overwhelming numbers.

  3. These are just increased sales taxes that impact the middle- and lower-income classes the most. The long game on this is to further shift revenue streams to the middle class and give the ultra-wealthy and their offspring a tax-free life.

  4. Companies that bought goods in anticipation of TRUMP’s tariffs will raise the price of those goods to post tariff replacement cost when they sell them taking the difference in a TRUMPfall profit

  5. Reading all the comments and it would seem as if all a sudden everyone is an expert on economics. The truth of the matter nobody knows exactly how bad the tariffs will affect The USA. To be honest, tariffs are a bargaining tool to get countries to come to the negotiating table. Trump is using them to get Mexico and Canada to tighten up their borders as The USA deal with illegal immigrants. It’s called chess folks.

    1. Some of us actually have degrees in economics, Kevin. These are huge, disruptive tax increases over an issue our neighbors don’t control.

The US imports lots of oil and lumber from Canada. The tariff hits gasoline and new construction.

US manufacturers import cars and components from both Mexico and Canada. Think cars are expensive today? Wait until next week.

Border security and illegal entry into the US is a problem for the US government to solve.

    2. The economic experts are all calling this idiotic.

Canada sends more to the U.S. than we export to them – get ready to see a lot of American stock prices plummet tomorrow at opening bell.
