  1. Can she, or has she ever been able to, wrestle a strong male perpetrator down to the ground and subdue him? If not, how in the world was she picked over hundreds of capable men who can do this basic, primary policing task? How many men in the department regard her as the best pick for leading a department whose core function is to subdue violent criminals? This is just – wow.

    1. Because, RIchard, her job descriptions, from what’s shown above, haven’t included having to wrestle male alleged perpatrators. I bet there are a lot of males on the force who couldn’t accomplish that goal…I’m 6’3″ and 200lbs, and I’ve met a lot of male officers who would have trouble wrestling me to the ground. What’s important is she seems to be a solid, respected officer and administrator. And that’s what you need at the top, not a wrestler.

      Your keen observation is just…wow.

Rick Snyder seems happy, and he’s not one to hold his tongue…

    2. Do you go around your office wrestling your coworkers to the ground to show how competent you are? What a weird thing to say

    3. So apparently John Cena would be the best candidate, Richard?

2026 and we’ve still got men insecure about female leadership. Sad.

    4. Michael, what’s weird is you comparing an office job to a LEO.
Joe, I know it’s hard for you Democrats to comprehend, but yes, LEO’s do get in physical confrontations with the criminals you love so much. As you point out, it is 2026 so we should be beyond identity politics, but you love it, as long as it fits your Democrat agenda, of course

    5. Richard – I assume you read none of the article nor actually understand what the police do outside of movies?

    6. Michael— what a stupid comment
Nate- are you going to start deleting Michael’s comments like you do mine?

    7. Chuck, we are discussing the chief of police. By the time you’re in senior management (and this is in no way different than a bunch of other fields), your daily job description is no longer the same as the people in the field. This isn’t the Dukes of Hazzard or the Simpsons.

Maybe Republicans think that way, which is why Hegseth seems like an effective leader until you watch him try to do a pull-up.

    8. Have you seen the men in blue in this city lately? Too many of them couldn’t run a half block. Interesting that you immediately jumped to physical characteristics without looking into her qualifications and endorsements. Don’t be that guy. It’s not a good look.

  2. Do I care what she looks like? No. Do I think its noteworthy that a female was appointed to the rank. Yes. Should this end that discussion? Yes. Get on with the job. Show us you’re as qualified as Hogsett and Snyder think you are.

And I might note that Trump seems to think what such an appointee might look like is critical…take Kristi Noem, for example. Not a bit of experience to recommend her for her current position, got her college degree because the university gave her credit for having served in Congress, and now she heads the US Department of Making War on US Citizens. Bondi? Legal experience, but I’m sure there were men who could do the job. The US DA for Eastern Virginia who was terminated by the Courts? No background in criminal law, but was named a US DA. Same for his New Jersey appointment, Alina Habba.

Yeah, I don’t care what the person looks like if they can get the job done, but it appears the MAGAt in Chief does…

All of which, by the way, suggests that Trump is a huge fan of DEI. 40 years ago, none of these women would have been looked at for top positions. Like most women, they would have been relegated to lesser roles, never made the power. But Trump seems to go out of his way to find women, mostly attractive women, to filll roles that would have gone to men. And Trump, by the way, made noise about hiring the first female President’s Chief of Staff…

  3. Timothy— clearly that didn’t end the discussion. Thanks for somehow spinning an IMPD appointment into a bizarre anti Trump rant.
Trump and Noem are a disgrace. Does that end the discussion for you, or nah?

  4. maybe Richard is confusing the jobs of the Chief of Police with that of the armed militia dispatched by Trump to various cities around the country. Those folks do seem to focus on the wrestling of people to the ground, even if they’re just bystanders witha camera…
