  1. CPA here – client e-filed in Feb 2021 before Congress passed the law that made the first $10,200 of unemployment comp tax exempt, so client essentially got less of a refund than they were otherwise entitled to. IRS advice at the time was to NOT file an amended return since they had all the info they needed to calculate the additional refund, and they were so swamped they didn’t want to make things worse for getting a bunch of amended returns.

Similar clients got their extra refunds. Subject client has not. I advised that I can’t inquire without a POA. Now this article appears to say her refund is at risk.

    Any advice from other CPAs?

    1. Client called the IRS and they told them they had no idea why they didn’t get her additional refund. Said to file an amended return, which I just did.
