Subscribe NowThe Manchester University Board of Trustees on Monday appointed Stacy Young as the university’s 16th president. Young, a 1996 graduate of Manchester, currently serves as president of Montcalm Community College in Sidney, Michigan.
Young was selected through a national search that began in December to find a successor for President Dave McFadden, who in October announced plans to retire.
Young said Monday she felt like she was being called back home to serve.
“I never dreamed I would have an opportunity to lead the institution that started my passion for higher education,” Young said in a news release from Montcalm, where she became the college’s first woman to serve as president. “Manchester truly changed my life.”
John Gilmore, president of the Manchester Board of Trustees, said the search committee was impressed with Young’s track record and passion for putting students first.
“She is a strong advocate for the liberal arts and, with experience in managing a two-campus institution, understands well the need for both of our campuses to succeed together in advancing Manchester’s mission,” said Gilmore. “Those of us who served on the search committee are confident that Dr. Young will hit the ground running as she takes the baton from [McFadden].”
McFadden will retire on June 30, and Young will begin her new role the following day. She will become only the second woman to lead Manchester, following Jo Young Switzer, who served as president from 2004-2014.
Manchester University is located in Wabash County, about 115 miles north of Indianapolis and about 35 miles west of Fort Wayne.
