The TWD tower was nice, but the proposal neglected surrounding properties that need investment. The F&C proposal was probably tainted by their shortcomings with Market 360. The selected proposal from Gershman will invest $$$ in existing structures and strengthen the area such that it can better absorb jail and CCB redevelopment. The City made the right decision.
Plus, you’ve gotta believe that TWD will propose something similar for jail redevelopment.
Hopefully TWD will not give up and propose a nice high-rise in that area. A nice skyline defines the character of a city. I’m wondering if the Hilton Signia 40 story hotel is still on the drawing board?
What shortcomings with Market 360. It was fully leased pretty quickly. Are you lamenting the fact they shortened it by two stories?
We turned down the 32 story angular glass TWG tower for an 11 story building???
What the hell is wrong with our city leaders.
This project if successful would have helped City Market and the Whole Foods
Super Market much more in the long run.
The 32 story angular glass structure is very appealing visually and would have
spurred probably much more future investments in that area than the
Flaherty & Collins project.
Department of Metropolitan Development, stop being short sighted.
A $ 132 million dollar project lost to a $ 33 million project?
Sorry, I said Flaherty & Collins. My bad. I meant the winning proposal developers.
It’s Indianapolis. Not Nashville or Austin. What did you expect?
I would love to hear the cities reasons for turning down such a stunning proposal by TWG? I love Indy, I really do, just wish city leaders were more progressive on moving towards what Indy would look like in the 22nd century and beyond. The old hinkle field house look and that field house name all needs to fall off. That’s Indiana’s past, not its future. Lets modernize the cities skyline and build higher please. Indy is acting like its a European city with height restrictions.
I suggest we all start writing city planners of our wishes to see the city select more bold and exciting projects. Tall buildings to enhance our less than impressive skyline for a city our size. When the city is broadcasted live on national Tv for all the conventions and sporting events, we should have a more impressive skyline to showcase. When millions tune in to see the Indy500, you wanna leave a lasting impression of the city that says, now that’s a city on the move!
All great points Kevin P.
Construction of tall architectural appealing towers show confidence, progress
and pride in a city. Shows a city growing and developing. This 32 story angular
glass structure would have been a big visual appeal to locals and out of Townes.
What do most people remember about a city after visiting?? The downtown
skylines or lack of.
