The planned restaurant will be the first Huse Culinary brand to open outside of Indiana. According to the company led by CEO Craig Huse, Harry & Izzy’s will occupy a newly constructed 8,300-square-foot building in Phoenix. A 2,400-square-foot patio and outdoor bar will accent the structure.
“Expanding to Phoenix isn’t just about opening a new restaurant—it’s about bringing our legacy of hospitality and unforgettable dining experiences to this vibrant community,” Craig Huse said in a written statement. “Harry & Izzy’s represents tradition, quality and connection, and we’re excited to introduce Arizona to what has made our concept so beloved in the Midwest.”
Craig Huse co-owns Huse Culinary with his father, Steve Huse, who purchased the iconic St. Elmo Steak House, 127 S. Illinois St., from Harry Rosen and Izzy Roth in 1986.
When Huse Culinary opened a modern steakhouse next door to St. Elmo in 2007, the Harry & Izzy’s name was selected to pay tribute to Rosen and Roth and their ownership of St. Elmo from 1947 to 1986.
The famed St. Elmo Shrimp Cocktail is served at three Harry & Izzy’s locations in Indianapolis: the original downtown spot at 153 S. Illinois St., an Indianapolis International Airport restaurant that opened in 2008 and a 4050 E. 82nd St. restaurant that opened in 2011.
Now the horseradish-focused appetizer will be served in Phoenix, where the Harry & Izzy’s steakhouse is planned as part of a $2 billion redevelopment of the former Paradise Valley Mall. Known as PV, the overhaul includes dining, retail, apartments, a music venue and corporate co-headquarters of Fender Musical Instruments Corp.
In an interview with the Phoenix Business Journal, Craig Huse said he’s scouting the Phoenix suburb of Scottsdale and other nearby communities as potential homes for Huse Culinary concepts.
“We think Scottsdale is very complementary to our brands,” Huse told the Phoenix Business Journal. “There are places we could go in Indiana and grow. We could go to smaller towns like South Bend, Fort Wayne or Evansville, but I don’t think those are very complementary to our brand where I think Scottsdale elevates the brand.”
In addition to St. Elmo Steak House and Harry & Izzy’s, Huse Culinary operates locations of 1933 Lounge and the HC Tavern & Kitchen.
From 2017 to 2020, Huse Culinary operated Burger Study restaurant at 28 W. Georgia St. Economic conditions related to the pandemic were cited in the restaurant’s demise.
Away from restaurants and bars, Huse’s St. Elmo Foods sells sauces, condiments and alcoholic beverages in stores throughout the United States.

Bring back Burger Study!
Definitely a place to go when we go to Phoenix!
why? assuming you live in Indy, you have this at home. try something new!
The shrimp cocktail is overrated. I have no problem eating something that is intensely spicy hot, like Thai food served “hot”, but shrimp is a mild flavored food that is overwhelmed with the ridiculous level of heat in their cocktail sauce. It’s gimmicky. Also, why only that one appetizer?
At Harry and Izzy’s, the shrimp cocktail is one of seven different appetizers. And at St. Elmo’s there is only one appetizer because people go there for the steaks, not chips and queso.

Who said chips and queso? Show me other high-end steak houses that have just one appetizer. And…. you failed to address my complaint about the “famed” shrimp cocktail.
In 2010, St Elmo’s reported on their Facebook page they sold 70k shrimp cocktails. I would imagine they sell more than double that now. Their shrimp cocktail is world famous getting free press at every major event held in Indy be it Final Fours, All Star games or The Indy 500, with celebrities talking it up. I’m not sure anyone needs to explain anything to you about such a successful food offering.
It’s about as world famous as Indianapolis is world class. Which is to say only in the hearts and minds of a ridiculous little.
Selling thousands a week isn’t that hard when all the locals and the media hype it up and it’s your only offering. You know what else sells a lot? McDonalds.
Yet it is consistently named among the top restaurants.
The rest of the food is indeed very good.
Craig, Huse Culinary, H&I, and the whole team do it better than anyone. Huge win for Scottsdale! Congrats to all!
